The Imperial Vienna Orchestra was founded in 2012 by Dario Salvi, who had just moved to the UK from Northern Italy. With a wealth of experience in conducting various bands and a passion for Viennese music, he soon formed many contacts and began working towards creating a full orchestra specialising in authentic Viennese music of the 19th century.
The orchestra specialises in providing excellent quality music for balls and concerts, often working in collaboration with local dance schools. Each performance gives the audience a chance to listen to never before recorded or performed works in Great Britain, for example Waldteufel’s ‘Queen of Hearts Waltz Op.192’, Ziehrer’s ‘Fur Uns Polka’ and J.Strauss III ‘Lili Waltz’ (the last known composition of the Strauss family).
Recreating what was the fashion of the 19th century of presenting a varied and exciting repertoire, including individual movements from works from the great masters, the orchestra performs overtures, specially arranged selections from operas and operettas, and music composed for ballroom and salon orchestras.
